Your Life Is…Yours

Why Not?

Everybody has that one dream, that one burning desire and passion in life. Whether it be a job, career, place, person, thing, whatever. Every person has a fantasy life that they escape to in their day-dreams, where they do everything they can’t do in the real world. So if every person has a dream to do/be something in life, why do so many people stray away from their dreams and settle for a life that they don’t want to live?

Beats me.

It's on You

Before I go on any further, understand that if you want to get anywhere in life, it’s up to you. Straight up. As much as we would all like, nobody is going to come up to us and offer us our dream job out of nowhere. The true reality of life is that nobody except a small few really even care about you. The majority of people you think care about you don’t. And the few people who do care about you also have their own lives to worry about. At some point, you’re going to have to get up and get it on your own.

This isn’t meant to discourage you but rather to motivate you. Once you realize that you are the keeper of your own destiny and nobody else will take you where you want to go except you, that hunger to achieve your dreams will increase exponentially. There’s a lot of good feelings in life- getting it on your own is one of the best.

Where to Start

The first step in living the life that you want to live is to find out how to get there. You gotta be strategic, make a plan of action on how you are going to get where you want to be. This applies to any type of goal, physical or not.

Let’s say you have a dream in a certain career field. Before you get that job, you have to figure out what it takes to get there. Start researching everything about that career. Learn about the ins and outs, what it’s going to take to get there, what you need to know to be successful. The earlier you can research and learn about what it takes to get there, the easier it will be when you are ready to take those steps and go for it.

If you find that you can start now in any way, do it. Some careers/jobs don’t require a degree or education. If you don’t have to go to school and can just start right away, do it! Why waste time doing something that doesn’t apply to what you want to do in life? There’s such a pressure and stigma that if you don’t have a degree, then you aren’t worth anything. That’s bullshit. If you find your calling without college, go for it by any means possible.

Start now and begin to build for your future.

If you need to go to school for your desired career, look at getting enrolled and graduating as soon as possible so that you can start. Don’t waste time messing around in school either. Use your time and resources to work on getting where you want to be. Take classes, join clubs, do what you need to do to help yourself in the future.

If you want to have a career online, there are countless opportunities, and you can start the majority of these career paths right now, no experience needed. Here are just a couple examples of legitimate career paths online:

  • content creator (blog/YouTube/music)
  • selling your products online
  • online Tutor
  • website creators
  • freelance writer/designer/Photographer

The Root of All Evil

One of the biggest issues as to why people aren’t able to follow their dreams is because of money. College is a lot of money. I’m stressing about paying for school as I write this. Starting a business is a lot of money. Shit, even starting a website costs a grip of money. A lot of people aren’t even able to take the first steps to a better life because they cannot afford to do so. I’m gonna be completely honest, when it comes to money, I am no expert. I will also say that I have never ever been in a real position where I personally have struggled with money. That’s not a flex, I’m just letting you know that I still have a lot to learn about paper.

But what I do know is that money is not the whole issue as to why you aren’t chasing your dreams. Have you ever seen a crackhead out of crack? Never. Why? Because crackheads have a burning desire, otherwise known as addiction, to get their hands on some fresh crack. The point I make with this is that even the poorest, lowest drug addicts find ways to get their drugs. If you want to succeed as badly as a crackhead wants their next fix, you will find ways to go out and make some money to start building your dream life.

The initial cost of this website was $200, which I didn’t have. So what did I do? I fuckin’ scrapped enough shit in my room that might have been worth something and I sold it for a total of $200. I literally sold an old radio and like an old pair of kicks.

You can do it. A part time job at a shitty restaurant for a couple of months might be necessary. Going around mowing lawns to get a few hundred bucks could make the difference in your life. Don’t get discouraged, have faith and be hopeful because this is the last time that you are going to stress over money.

Don't Settle

If you really want to live the life that you desire, you have to be willing to work hard and sacrifice now for later. The reason why so many people settle for a job that they hate is because it is easy. It’s laid out right there and it doesn’t take much effort to settle into. On the contrary, chasing your dreams and what you really want to do is very difficult. The choice is yours- take the easy route now, be lazy and live a life that you hate, or suffer a little bit now and enjoy the rest of your life living exactly how you want to.

I see so many people stuck in their lives, going through their monotonous day the same way that they did the day before that and the day before that. It’s like that SpongeBob episode where Squidward moves into the gated squid community, Tentacle Acres. He starts off happily doing his daily routine of cycling, grocery shopping, exercising, and playing the clarinet. But as he repeats the same routine day after day, he starts to enjoy his routine less and less, and his smile turns into a frown. Don’t be Squidward.

Squidward's Daily Routine

Something, anything

I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t have my shit figured out. That’s okay though. I realize that I have a lot of time to figure it out. But my main goal is to just do something. To put something out there that will put me in positions to get where I want to be. If this blog takes off, that would be incredible. If this blog fails and forces me to start a new one, so be it. If this takes me to a freelance writing career, I’m more than happy with that.

I’m in it for the bigger picture right now. I don’t know what I am going to end up doing, or where I will be, I’m just trying to put myself in positions for opportunity. Why not start doing that as soon as possible?

I promise you that if I can do this, you can too. I’m not saying this like I’ve made it already. I know I’m not shit yet. What I’m saying is that if I can start my journey now to getting where I want to be, so can you.
